PVC(Polyvinyl chloride)is an amorphous white powder with a low degree of branching, a relative density of about 1.4, a glass transition temperature of 77-90°C, and decomposition starting at about 170°C. The stability to light and heat is poor at temperatures above 100°C or over a long period of time. Sun exposure will decompose and produce hydrogen chloride, and further autocatalytic decomposition, resulting in discoloration, physical and mechanical properties also rapidly decline, in the practical application of stabilizers must be added to improve the stability of heat and light.
The molecular weight of industrially produced PVC is generally in the range of 50,000 to 110,000. It has a large polydispersity, and the molecular weight increases with the decrease of polymerization temperature. Without a fixed melting point, it softens at 80 to 85°C and becomes viscoelastic at 130°C. 160~180°C began to change to viscous flow state; good mechanical properties, tensile strength about 60MPa, impact strength 5~10kJ/m2; excellent dielectric properties.
PVC used to be the most versatile plastic in the world with a wide range of applications. In construction materials, industrial products, daily necessities, floor leather, floor tiles, artificial leather, pipe, wire and cable, packaging film, bottles, foam materials, sealing materials, fibers, etc. are widely used.
